Election of New GREF Board Members

04th April 2017

GREF BOARD NOMINATIONS AND ELECTIONS

 Dear GREF member,

The GREF Board would like to announce that Richard Faulkner (Alderney), Mike Herborn (Denmark),  Rolf Sims (Norway) and Corinne Valletta (Malta) have completed their term of office at the Board.

Consequently, during the GREF Conference 2017 (30 May – 2 June, London) elections will be held for four positions at the GREF Board.

Elections will be held in accordance with the GREF Constitution (below), as amended, 15th June 2012 in Troia, Portugal. In order to make the process simple and clear, the following process has been adopted:

Nominations – using the nomination form (below) – must be sent to the Secretary (Robert Biegel, rbiegel@kansspelautoriteit.nl). Nominations must be supported by two Proposers. If there are proposals for all vacancies, the Secretary will close the nominations at the end of Monday 29th May.

If a post does not have a proposed nominee, then the Secretary will call for a nominee at the start of business on Day 1 of the conference (31 May). If no-one is proposed to a post then the Board may appoint a GREF Member to the position as per the Constitution.

The elections will be for: Ordinary Member (4)

The elections can be combined into one voting slip.

In the event of a contest, the winners will be by simple majority. This means that the person with the highest number of votes will win. If there is a tie then the vote should be held again until there is a clear winner.

The Secretary will receive the voting papers, makes a count and announces the results. The Secretary may ask for assistance to verify the result.

In the event that there are only four candidates, or less, an election may be declared without a secret ballot.

Please consider putting yourself forward to serve on the Board of GREF or participate more widely in its working groups.

On behalf of the GREF Board,

Steve Brennan

Chairman

ELECTIONS AND TERMS OF OFFICE (GREF Constitution)

Members of the Board are elected by a majority of all member jurisdictions present at a regular meeting following the ‘one flag, one vote’ principle.

The terms of office are:

  • The Chair may serve for a maximum term of two years.
  • The Vice-Chair may serve for a maximum of two years.
  • The Secretary may serve for a maximum of four years.
  • Ordinary Members serve for two years.

Elections will take place during the regular meeting at which a Board Member’s term of office will expire. The Board may at any time appoint a member to fill any vacancy on the Board until the next regular meeting. At the end of its term of office, the Chair will leave the Board and must wait two years before being eligible for re-election to any post on the Board.

On retirement from the Board the Chair will be replaced by the Vice-Chair. In the event that the Chair retires mid-year, the Vice-Chair will serve as Chair designate until the next regular period of office. Retiring Secretaries or Treasurers are eligible for re-election to another post, but may not be re-appointed to their former post.
